Limited Edition : Joy Kirton-Smith [Biography]

Joy Kirton-Smith

Joy Kirton-Smith

Joy's work is figurative, with a strong emphasis on movement, dance and theatre. She also likes to create images of eroticism and earthliness. Her inspiration stems from capturing the aesthetic qualities of the human form, combining the contrast between form and flux as tangible entities, engulfed in a constantly changing environment. Joy's technique involves the blending of focal characters into merged backgrounds, abstracting the moving figures from the stage. Finding reference from traveling extensively.

Brought up in the Worcestershire countryside. Recollections of early childhood, living next to a lock and weir on the banks of the River Severn, became an inspiration to her creative spirit later in life. Joy's formal art education took place at Halesowen College. Also learning a lot from her father who was an adventurous painter and decorator, always keen to try out new techniques.

Her work was first published in 1995. To date Joy has more than 100 limited edition series to her name which have been exhibited in many galleries around the UK.
